trying something new
« on: Jan 21, 2010, 08:32 AM »
yesterday I went to a pond in new boston. Its more of my practice pond if I'm trying something new. Anyway, after two hours of punching holes and jigging I wasn't catching. As I was taking a break and looking through my backpack I noticed that I had a small box of clouser minnow flies that I forgot to take out after a fishing trip this summer. So needless to say I figure what the heck its basically a jig. I tied one on and a slow day turned to a great day 4 bass, 8 perch and a couple pickerel. Not bad for 4 hours of fishing. I figure I'll tying some up with heavier eyes an use them for lakers. I'll write back after this weekend and hopefully have some good news.

You mean it took you how long to figure that out?

Ok, all kidding aside, I ALWAYS bring a small selection of flies on the ice for that very reason.
That's what they mean when they say "change it up a bit".
Sometimes it's just a matter of showing the fish something they haven't seen before/or for some time.

Good work, and good luck!
