Size cut-off for the derby?
« on: Feb 24, 2006, 04:40 PM »
What do you guys think? How big is big enough?  Being a mostly catch and release fisherman I'm thinking anything under 12 lbs I'm tossing back.  Do you think a fish of this size has a chance or should I raise the bar.
Good luck to you all this weekend.  Hope to see a fellow Shanty member take home the money.

there are many good prizes for just entering a fish.  If you caught a keeper, I'd enter it in the derby.  May not win the top three prizes but $30,000 buys a lot of prizes besides the top three.  But hey, every fish you throw back increases my odds so.....yeah, anything under say 15 pounds I'd gently release.   ;D  Wish you luck tomorrow, hope an iceshanty member wins and remember to tell the weigh in people you are an iceshanty member for our prize!!

From the rules:
“Fish Pool” prizes will be drawn by lottery.
The heaviest fish from each species will be entered into the drawing.
(For example- the heaviest Crappie could win the snowmobile.)

I think just the top fish in each catagory are being entered for the pool but I may be reading wrong.  Anyhow, looks like it might be worth jigging a few panfish up and entering the fattys :)
