I think you need a Man made hole .  And global warming does not count.

I think youre right.  I was told that by a biologist once when I had my trap on crack.  I couldnt find
it in the law book though

Is a 6" chipped hole that turns into a 2 ft hole after it rains, still considered a man made hole. How do you know if its a man made hole if a women drilled it. 


Where in the rule book does it say man made hole? Like I said I was told as long as part of your tip-up is on ice, you're ice fishing. I'm going to save this crack picture and send it to MIFW and post the feeback I recieve.

THAT (those do) does read pretty clearly.  I think I would follow that over what a bio says.

I was talking to the warden in my shop one day and I told him how I used to drag a lure along the pressure ridges on Great East.....he looked at me kinda funny and I knew to shut my trap.....    It's illegal.....

It also says this:

Open water fishing.
Taking freshwater fish during the open water fishing season by means of hook and line in hand or attached to a rod, or by casting or trolling artificial flies, lures, or baited hooks, provided that the person angling does not take fish through the ice, from the ice, or from any object supported by the ice.

So I would argue that if your trap is supported by the ice than that is ice fishing.  In addition it does not say anywhere that it is unlawfall to fish through a hole not made by man.

I guess we will have to ask the MIFW to be certain.

Crack fishing is officially over, picked up my traps yesterday evening at 7 and had one hellava time retrieving them...Goin back today to see what else I left on the lake bed....
