Can't wait to get back up there next weekend. Couldn't make it up this week because of work. My showdown should be showing up in a couple days, it'll be my first time using a finder while ice fishing.

1.17.2015

Fished off the north end of Mayhew this morning and only saw a few lakers but not very interested in what i had to present. CH joined me later in the morning, we had some kind of veggie, egg, cheese, bacon, avocado, peppers mixed together in some sort of flat bread that she pre-made at home. Was good and pretty much filled us up for the rest of the day. Almost needed a nap after eating that.

Very cold but low winds. I knew Laker Taker was getting anxious to move his house. I watched him scout out a few areas and when he told me the ice was pretty much the same thickness every where he checked, we decided it was time to bounce.

Made the move to Whittemore point. As soon as we cut holes in the house, there were 3 lakers there waiting for us...err...for CH cause she caught all 3 right off the bat. Then proceeded to lose another 3 more :) Laker Taker made it up in time to punch her for her misses.
I was getting worried, thinking i would need to take more time off from work just to get ahead of her. Tomorrow we will be battling it out, gotta protect my lead.

JRA and Toad made it out today although i didn't get a chance to see them and say hello. Heard they did well today. Ice Midget made it back to Newfound too and did very well. He can chime in on his success.

Great day although it was very slow for me. Back at it again tomorrow.

How's the ice holding up with the rain? I'm thinking about heading up sometime this week. Does the whole lake have fishable ice?

1.18.2015

Some serious pressure ridges popped up yesterday during the rain. Off of the Wellington boat launch in about 5fow the runs south to north on the lake. Massive pressure ridge the further you go north (same ridge).

Another at the north end of Mayhew Island that runs west to east. This one went from flat to 3' tall yesterday. Tippin got some good video footage of that, Thanks Tippin! I got some of the ice at Wellington.

The ice made a ton of noise yesterday, believe CH lost a few years of her life yesterday. She has never been so scared. We still had 9 - 10" of pure black ice but it was cracking in good shape. Made the house move a few times throughout the day. The rain yesterday was freezing up causing a blanket of ice on everything but was also puddling up on the lake ice.

In the morning we made it across the pressure ridge at Wellington but in the afternoon, I had to seek out a different spot to cross. Had to chisel it down a bit.

CH ended the day with 3 lakers and lost a few more. This catches her up to me for the season now. :( guess I'll need to take more time off from work to get ahead of her again.

Here is a video of one playing with her.

Shack is out, plank and all.  ;)  Wind was howling out there yesterday but we managed to get her out. Fished for a couple of hours but had to leave, things to do. Planning to fish pregame tomorrow. Let the fun and games begin.

Looks good Captain. Let me know when you want me to sail in on you.   >:D

wow...what an experiance that was when the lake popped....it moved the hose quite a bit, and you could hear everyone on 5.5
who were in different spots on the lake saying they felt the same thing...hard to believe such a massive sheet of ice can move like
that !....awsome..

right now there is alot of surface water oUt there...hoping it freezes up for the weekend !

glad everyone got home safe and sound.

Hit newfound for the first time.   Definitely lots of water on top of the ice but it was binding up / draining off as the day went on.

We caught two bows and a laker!   Can't wait to get back

1.21.15

Tippin and I toured the lake tonight after work and checked on everyone's houses. All looked good, pictures sent to everyone of their house.

The lake is solid ice, must wear creepers.

There is a pressure ridge that run across the boat launch, we had to travel north coming out of the launch, cut down the pressure ridge to create a "bridge" to cross over the pressure ridge with our wheelers. Going south coming out of the launch, the pressure ridge is worse, wet and some spots only 1 punch with a chisel. Heads up.

The pressure ridge at the north end of Mayhew island looks to have come down some but still looks nasty in spots.

Thanks Tippin for taking the ride with me. Nice night to get out and cruise. Trout freak came out with his side by side later.

Glad to hear it's all frozen now. I'll be in Hornet Cove Saturday morning, planning on heading out a little deeper to go for some lakers. Last time I was out it was still open farther out.

Hornets cove is good, solid ice. A few houses in the area.

Deeper should be good too but best to check it.

Creepers are a must.

Question:

I plan on switching over to Ethanol free pre-mixed gas like Tru-Fuel in my gas augers and didn't  know if I should be running 50:1 or 40:1 in a Jiffy. Does anyone know for sure which is better?

I was thinking 50:1

I just put some in mine last week. The only one available at HD was 50:1. It ran OK but is not cheap. I don't think I got HPG (holes per gallon) as the other gas mixed with ethonol. They are available in six packs I think online.

I run the 50:1 in mine and runs great. I haven't seen 40:1 in the tru fuel.  Its definitely convenient but can get pricey. Worth it to me
