Killed 'em today, PART 2
« on: Dec 18, 2008, 05:08 AM »
well today was another outstanding day on the ice for Meatmonger and myself, it was a picture perfect day hardly any wind. To say that we killed 'em is an understatement we caught nearly 500 gills today, dont worry we didn't keep 'em all, only about 375, lol. I have never personaly fish over the top of a school of gill so large, it was incredable, threw the dinks back, and the smallest we kept was 6" with the average of 8" and a bunch of 9-10". It was a good day tator.......MM

Nice pile of pannies! Need to know more about that awesome box your sitting on though. Looks a LOT better than My prototype I used last year that I made from a fiver. Melted the cover on mine!
Looking forward to some "crappie" nights!

MM.... I refused to pay the extra dollars for an electric "fillet" knife...... I use an electric carving knife I bought at Wal-Mart.... Blades are more flexible and it was only $8 or $10 compared to the $20 to $40 for the "Fillet" knife.

Works great.....

Holy crap!!!!  WTG!!!!

Sounds like you had the day of a lifetime and one you will never forget.

Did you say you kept 375??  How can anyone possibly eat 750 fillets of bluegill in a years time, unless you eat them every day or feed an army.  Even divided by 2 that is alot of fish eating.  I think I would get sick of them before I ate that many and I love to eat gills.  Hope you have 100lbs of taters to go with them!!!

I realize there is no limit on bluegills, and I will probably get ripped for saying it, but we all should practice a little selective harvest when we get on them like that.  Not a shot at you MarcumMan, as you were 100% within the law, just a belief that the resource is not unlimited and we all have to do our part to be able to enjoy it now and in the future.

Ok...let me have it....

#1. I doubt that you caught 375
#2. If you did catch that many' then your ethics are to be questioned.
#3. Why in the H--L would you keep 6" when you're on them like that? I have no problem keeping 6" panfish when thats all that I can catch, or to make a dozen .........but come on man.
#4. Alot of guys feel this way but wont say it.'

Marcum man.....Awesome catch!!  If the fish are biting, and your gonna clean'em and eat'em, I say go for it!!  You just have to remember there are always a few bad apples in the bunch or one that is really jealous.  Who cares what they think, you won't remember it when your eating some of that big mess of gills.

ispoman.....Did your momma teach you that if you don't have any thing nice to say then shut the h*** up!!

Once again NICE mess of gills!!

500 fish is a bit of an exaggeration, unless you caught one fish a minute for 8 straight hours which would be absolutely impossible. I love a good fish story as much as the next guy.

a bit of a stretch for 2 guys also. Last week me and a buddy caught 275 walleye at south mud lake. We were using 8 inch bluegills for bait. The walleye averaged 18 pounds with the biggest being 31 pounds.
