Got a good one
« on: Jan 15, 2010, 05:29 PM »
Took a half day to go jig my favorite lake for big Bluegill.  Turned out to be a real tough bite with only two bluegill at 9" and 7".  I also jigged up bass of 15" and 17" and a 14" fat Yellow Perch, probably the heaviest one I have ever caught.  The only other Perch I caught was about 4".  It should have still had a yolk sac attached. :) Everything came from 13 to 17' of water on small jigs tipped with waxworms.  Real slow afternoon but nice to get a few quality fish.

Here's a few pics of the bass and perch.

Nice perch Husky and The iceyone!

Husky,

Too bad the big bgs are hard to find. Maybe you're spoiled?  ;D

Not sure what you mean by, "It should have still had a yolk sac attached?"  You do realize they will  build up their egg mass until the water gets in the upper 40's low 50's when they drop their egg strands?  I know people say they spawn under the ice but it's not true. I hatch my own in a separate pond each year now.
I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.

I mean the other perch was definitely VERY SMALL, almost to the point of finding it hard to believe I caught it.  The yolk sac comment was just to stress its diminutive size.

That perch looks like it's ready to explode. I could only imagine what that pig would look like in a month or so. Nice one!
The angle of the dangle is directly proportionate to the heat of the beat.
