Fished Gunderson gravel pit and behind shenanigans before noon. Not a fish to show for it. Lots of shad marked. Fished round lake in trempleau only to catch perch the size of my thumb. Also saw a guy fall through on round lake. In 3 ft of water. Wasn't spudding and didn't go to he best looking ice. He got out right away and went home. I was ready to help but there was 4 of them and they did fine. People be careful and spud everywhere you go. 2 inches of white ice and 2 inches of black ice under it is where I stayed.
Fishing the sippi hasbee tough thus far! Haven't seen anyone do well yet.

Found some perch but no eyes or pike.  Not a whole lot of ice yet, 2.5 maybe 3", but it was nice to just set the transducer on the ice next to the hole and not have to worry about tangles.  Might hit Jolivettes or the lake tomorrow.

That's a damn nice perch.
Has anyone been out since Sunday afternoon? Wondering if we put any more ice on over Monday so I have an expectation going in Saturday morning.

Not a whole lot but as long as we don't get a bunch of rain it will be fine.

Yeah I agree with you. I hope we don't get much snow. I like being able to see what I'm walking on.

Lots of ice now on the river. Fished a few different spots this weekend. Saturday the ice ranged from 4-6 inches everywhere. After saturday night and sunday morning there was 8-9 inches in the same locations. Most everything should be safe now especially after last night and today. I had very little success though. I had to work hard for the few fish I caught. I think it has something to do with the water level going up over the weekend. I'm surprised it's over 7 ft still. It's not uncommon for it to be in the 5ft range over winter and here we are 2' higher than that. I wonder what will happen in the upcoming week or so. Hopefully it stabilizes so we can get some better fish results.
But one thing is for sure, lost of fish were marked over the weekend.

Well the river has finally started to drop.....and it's dropping fast, from 7ft Sunday to 5.6 today.
Hard telling how much this will affect the fish.
Going to be in the 30's Thursday.

That's good news as far as I'm concerned.  Heading out in a bit to see how much ice we made over the past couple days.

RAP, I'm probably going to airport beach Saturday, let me know how the black river looks if you venture that way.

Weather looks nice for the morning and I'm finally confident enough in the ice to start venturing out before dawn.  Gonna go try and hit some walleye and sauger in the AM.  I know it's late warning but if anyone wants to tag along send me a PM.  Probably hit the ice about 5:45-6:00am-ish.

I've fished LaCrosse area with my son who lives in Onalaska and can't figure out where jollivettes is located.  Possibly I know it by another name.  Where is it located?  PM if you would like.  Thanks

Jollivettes is located on  spillway rd on French island. There's a boat landing there that everyone walks out from. Bring your walking boots and cleats

So true......Last February my son and I got there around 8:00 am on a Saturday.  The parking lot was full and it looked like there was a contest going on.  Talked to another
fellow on the ice and he said the wayside lot was full too.  Another guy told us that he lived on French Island for 30 years and never saw that amount of people before.

People call it Jollivettes because they owned the farm there.  Go past the airport to lakeshore dr, right to spillway (on left side), couple blocks to dead end,  left to boat ramp. Area dredged when the interstate was built in the 60's varies from shallow to 35'+, nice crappies.

I'm going out tomorrow with my son and we're not sure where we want to try some tip-ups  and tip-downs. Was wondering if anyone had any ideas.  Everything I've heard for the past two weeks is stay home. ???

The tip up bite has been non existent, if you find some perch you might get some action on the tip downs.

Hey guys.
I have been able to sneak out of the house the last 2 Sundays and fished the Black river (between the spillway and copeland bay. I've been all by my lonesome fishing some break lines between 6' and 25'. Most fish have been coming in the 10-14 ft depth range. Mostly nice perch but this last Sunday I was able to pick up 2 really nice Gills.
It's been a refreshing year getting away from shanty towns and trying new spots. 2 weeks ago I put 15 perch in the fry pan fishing from 630 to 10:30 and this last Sunday I took 7 nice perch and 2 gills home in the same time period.
Hopefully the ice holds up in the upcoming warm spell. otherwise we'll be fishing out of the boat by the end of march.
How has everyone else been doing?

I think things should hold up ok for now.  I was just looking at the 10 day and it seems like they dialed some of those high temps back a bit.

Be careful if you're going out this weekend, things are starting to get dicey.  I had a close call on Tuesday, the river in front of the airport has opened up quite a bit over the past couple days, and I heard a vehicle possibly went through today.  I'm going to Wazee this weekend and then I'm pretty much done for the year I think.

I was planning on going tomorrow but I canceled. the water level will be going up and the ice is fading fast. Shorelines will be gone by saturday afternoon.
Time to get the boat ready for next weekend.
A truck went through lake onalaska tuesday i heard.
Did anyone see the verdict about that guy that was pinched for possession limit in onalaska? http://lacrossetribune.com/news/local/thousands-of-fish-seized-from-onalaska-angler-s-house/article_a0c55d75-5b9e-5380-9297-393c345ba4af.html
That guy had 2500 panfish. Where was he fishing???

Here's the story about the truck going through the ice. Not much to read about other than it happening. Nothing like dropping a $30K truck though.
