Trailer ice shack
« on: Feb 07, 2014, 10:48 AM »
Was out visiting a friend in Wisconsin he has a drop down ice shack thing is pretty sweet. Question is does anyone around here use one? his was on over two feet of ice which must be nice. I am thinking of this idea just don't know seeing the winters we have had in past seems like a light shack would be the way to go,I just like the idea of driving argo into it and pulling it out there with it.

Lots of great options for our kind of fishing in Maine (thinner ice, lighter shack weights, towable by ATV)  that have use all year long.  Unfortunately all of these companies with drop downs are sold in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Idaho, etc.

Had a buddy that built on on an old snowmobile trailer.  Worked well, but rig something up so you can drop skis down instead of tires in case the snow is deep at the end of the year.  It's a real fight to haul a trailer on tires through 2' of snow!

Do you have a drop down trailer, SnoPro?  If so, where are they sold out here?

Working on skis now . I've seen sets  for 500 plus figure I can do it for half that . Open to ideas if anyone has done it !

I have a 6.5' x 12' wheel house that is fully loaded including 3 fold down bunks. I have double doors on the back so I can load my 4 wheeler inside. I have taken the combination out many times on 6" of ice, makes for an enjoyable day.

I think the other advantage of it is that when I leave so does the house. I have had my experience with break ins at other permanents that I have owned, never again!

It looks to me that an old set of snowmobile skis and a ratchet strap could get it done on a narrow trailer tire with a little tinkering .

some ideas

Fished out of a Snopro at Nugents Camps end of January.  Super insulated. Aluminum frame weigs out at 400 lbs. The day we used it the wind gusted 50 no kidding.  Some how the design keeps it on the ice even under extreme conditions. Pulled super easy with my sled. Nice to be able to change locations and still have a warm place to jig.

My freind built his 8x8 shack on a trailer. He welded brackets on 4 corners so he can level. He can tow with his truck,in deep snow he jacks up each side and puts jet sled under the wheels.
