1'st Team CT Outing - Feb 8 - Sign-up/food.

1'st annual Team CT outing @ Wethersfield Cove. Feb 8, 2009!
This is an all day event. If the weather and ice are good, the cove will be busy. Get there as early as you want to get a good spot on the ice. Plenty of time to figure out a base camp location. Maybe someone will toss me a coordinate. ;) We can make the official end around mid-afternoon. Plan for a group photo too in the early afternoon.

I'm going with this date for now, with rain dates for the following 2 Sundays (15'th and 22'nd) to make sure we can get this event in. We had a pile of rain last winter that wrecked the river.
This date will change if Mike G over on CTfisherman choses Feb 8'th for Iceholes. In which case i'll forward our event plan one week.

This even is open to any IceShanty member, not just CT. We welcome anyone from the area that wants to join in.

Wethersfield Cove is located at the end of Main St. in Wethersfield. You can catch it right off I91. Exit # to be posted when i remember. MapQuest or Google yourself directions if needed.

A big thanks to Connecticut Outfitters http://www.ct-outfitters.com for offering to donate small and medium shiners to the event
They are literally 5 minutes from the cove. But since it's the river, pick up some big baits for the pike, stripers, and big cats too. They've switched over to winter mode, and have lots of swag.
554 Wethersfield Ave
Hartford, CT 06114
(860) 296-0110

As stated, this is the sign-up and food thread. Keep an eye on this post for the list and updates. Lemme know who's coming. We have to pull a permit from the DEP, and a proper head count is appreciated.
If you're bringing food to share, let me know what you've planned. Please also supply the proper servingware for it (if needed). And also please have a garbage bag handy so we leave the ice the same way we arrived. Clean.

For now this is just a friendly gathering, but if you guys want to make a "tourney" out of it somehow, we can get some braggin' rights trophies made up easy and cheap. Just say the word.

I live about a block from the cove.  I may pull my smoker out on a sled and smoke up some bluefish my bro caught over the summer.  No worries, it was been in a deep freeze since.  I can also smoke up a pork shoulder and haul out some pulled pork for a little taste of summer BBQ out on the ice.  Might make good chum for the holes as well.

I tossed myself in with spanky. I'll be bringing my Coleman stove to do up some breakfast sandwiches. Probably on hard rolls.

I'm definitly in, only thing that will keep me from coming is death and if that happens I'll still make an appearance. I've played at the cove last two seasons and am getting to know it better each time. As for grub Sounds like we have it well covered I will bring some sodas and water. Should we cook some of our catch, can't get any fresher than just caught perchys or crappies.
see you then if not earlier.

No worries Mike. Plenty of time to dive in. If we get 30 IS members on the ice, i'll consider it a successful outing.

The head count is at the bottom of the list of participants, and reflects the highest best guess. It will be updated everytime the list is.
That reminds me. Since we need a permit, i'll see what our limit for people (if any) applies for Wethersfield Cove.

I also expect "silly season" around the 2 week mark SeaDog, so your 10 day guess isn't far off. It's where people who have been sitting on the bubble for a month jump in, and sudden plan changes remove other attendees.

As far as food goes, bring enough food to feed as many people as you want. 5 or 50. For some guys, these types of gatherings are ways of showing off the grill skill on the ice. I've been organizing and attending these for years, and we have never come close to running out of food at any outing, ever! Smitty and Dan alone are looking to show up ready to feed the masses!
All i ask is that we all carry out what we carried in. If you're serving food, also have plates and sporks. Also have a garbage bag out for when they're done sampling.

Alright pooley! I may have a reason to hold back on my bottle of Ice Hole this season.  ;D

I wish i had room to put someone up for the night, but if anyone else is considering the long drive, there is a Holiday Inn Express on Brainard Rd. in Hartford. It's just around the corner from Connecticut Outfitters, and the same 5 minutes from the cove.

List is updated, and i'm awaiting a reply from the DEP to see what our limit is for people.

I don't think we're going to have any high speed Jet Sled rides in Wethersfield Cove. It may be busy, and it's close to Hartford. I don't want them city folk shooting at us. ;)

Sorry we're going to miss you rocklobster!

I haven't thought that far Romey. Just wanted to get this rolling. But i'm sure with 25 or 35 of us out there, some cool stuff will come through the ice. Wethersfield Cove offers up a lot of species. I'm particularly interested in either bagging a real frippin' pike (if i don't by then), a striper,  or getting a carp since E is going to be there. Never caught a carp.

If you guys want to do a some sort of tourney, you have plenty of time to hash it out. Count me in. Even a blind squirrel gets lucky once in a while. ;)

Striper through the ice is more fun than you can imagine!  I've gotten two out of that cove in the past two years!  one 26" and one 24"!  fought like all hell!

Romey,
In 2 years fishing that cove through the ice,
I'm still waiting for that striper .. :(

A small  Bass from last year.

You can jig a ton of Spot tail shiners, the problem I have is  keeping them alive once I catch them.
I can keep them alive by drilling a livewell in the ice, but once I take them home they die... :%$#!:
