Squantz Pond
« on: Feb 03, 2009, 12:45 PM »
Just curious if anyone has fished it. It's an hour and a half ride for me, didn't know if it was worth it?

It's great if you are an expert at catching eyes without the nite bite. They dont let you fish there at night. If your not an expert, its just a tease. Jig for the trout.

I don't think that pertains to fishing. I used to live on candlewood but had alot of friends that live right on squantz and we  would be in the boats all night. I think thats just the park and swimming..

What local beach you parking in? When you drive an hour and a half to get there, your not a local, and they throw you out. I see a pattern here. ::)

if your worried about parking you can unload at the lake and park across the street at the boat launch on Candlewood. no gate there. I have been up to squantz at night. If you are out fishing the lower gate is left open and they close the gate that goes into the park. In the morning they close the boat launch gate because people will park in the launch parking lot to go use the park without paying which is a problem in the summer.
I have been told to fish out in front of the beach and around the corner from it. The water drops off as you get out away from the beach, remember that the water is lowered some 12 feet for the winter. Its a long walk but that is where most of the eyes can be caught.
Good Luck

There are 2 lots, one large for the park and a smaller one for the launch area. The park entrance may be closed, but not the launch. I have parked at the launch and fished at night with out any issue. On the other hand, I have not had a great deal of luck. The eyes will only hit alewife's, and although you can buy locally they would die as soon as I put them in the hole. The water must have been much colder then what they had them in at the bait store. Have had better luck just across the street in Candlewood, but last few years have been awful!!!
