If I'm reading the special regs for Big Pond correctly, bait fish are not allowed? What would you suggest as tip up bait for pike if you can not use bait fish? I have only used shiners and suckers for pike with tip ups.

I would leave the tip-ups at home and jig. The less stuff I carry this early, the better anyway!
I need a miracle... every day!

Pre Christmas report, Schroon is still sketchy,  not enough cold nights lately.  South basin, open, Narrows open, mile north of Narrows, mostly open to Witherbys. North basin mostly frozen, open hole behind DeCesares, in front of Kellys Funeral Home.  Inch, maybe 2 rest of North Basin.  With a couple cold nights we could be fishing off Fowler.  I'm thinking after the first of the year.  Eagle Lake is fishable, 4-5" last I heard.

I've been told 4-5" off north end.   Snowplowing and holidays have kept me off the ice, so far.

That's a pretty huge swing from when I was there Thursday and Friday.  You wouldn't have caught me anywhere on that slush Friday.  Glad people got out and stayed on top

Guys have been fishing all over the north end, all the way to the island. Some snowmobiles have been out there as well.  Lot's of rain last night that knocked down the snow.  Water and slush should lock up by the weekend.  Also Narrows froze last couple days with no snow on it.  IF the wind tonight doesn't break it up Narrows might be fishable this weekend as well.
