Drop-Down Smitty Sled
« on: Dec 21, 2021, 12:11 AM »
For those running a flipover, like the Eskimo Eskape series or Clam Fish Traps, smitty sleds can be a bit of a pain to use. Taking the sled off and then back on the smitty is something that annoyed me like crazy.

So, this season I built a new smitty sled that allows an angler to raise the sled up quickly and easily for moving spots but is also able to drop quickly to the ground for use with a flipover. Check out the link below:

I'd love to hear your guys' feedback and if you plan on building one of your own!

I like that idea a lot.

Something like that may happen to my Eskimo Wide One this summer, I stopped using it because I can't stand pulling it though the snow and putting a sled under my sled was getting on my nerves.

Thanks!

Have the eskimo sierra thermal. Any ideas on how to make it less permanent?  I pull by hand and machine.

Got a cost breakdown by chance? I am looking to convert my old jet self into a smitty, this design looks hard to beat.

Ever hear of a "lake runner" that Eskimo made a few years back? Hard to find now, but the idea was there.

Thanks for the heads up about the link! IceShanty Rookie, I didnt post it properly.

I definitely took some inspiration from the lake runner, if I could find a used one in my area I'd jump in it quick too!

I build the legs for about $120 CAD. The aluminum was from Metal Supermarkets, bolts and brackets from Home Depot and skis I found in the trash.

To make it less permanent would require a frame I think. Unless a guy could figure out a way to slide the legs into a bracket. This build only has three holes in the sled tub, you could easily take them off to transfer to another sled. I plan on doing that for when I find an Eskimo Eskape 2600 in stock locally.

Where did you buy the extenders ?

The extenders were built, not bought! Follow the link in the original post to see how they were built. Thanks.
