I use the HT Polar Ice Braided Tip Up line on my tip ups. For anyone else using this line, or a similar one, I was wondering how often you changed the line.

I try to go no more then two seasons ,check and change any leader more often along with the knot or terminal connection used to attach leader. I use braided nylon or Dacron on my tip ups tried vinyl coated tip up line from Ht Enterprises once did not care for it.

I change my leader often.. But haven't changed the dacron line in years.... seems to hold up very well.. But I don't catch musky or pike.. that might make a difference

I use Dacron as a backer, with fluoro leaders that if fish are caught on them, I change them every other trip out...considering mostly all I catch on tip ups are pickerel

Sorry to say I do not like any of HTs tipup line and I've used both their braided and plastic coated lines. The plastic coated line is very thick plastic with a very weak core line and the non coated frays easily and I don't like it. Your much better off using a tipup line from Mason, Cortland or even a braided superline for softwater fishing in a heavier lb test. I usually tie a small snap ring or swivel on the end of the tipup line then use around 4' of Flurocarbon for a leader. better off spending a little extra on good quality tipup line and it will last you for a very long time.

I don't really have a problem running the HT line. If I'm after pike I usually use quick strike rigs with a steel leader. I might make my own this year using a heavy power pro or flouro though. If I'm after walleye, perch or splake I use a flouro leader. So either way the line doesn't get beaten up too much. I just wasn't sure how long it was good on the spool. I just picked up 5 additional tipups this summer so I'll check out the other tipup lines and see if I like any of those better. Thanks

I've been using dacron trolling line for 3 seasons now. I have not changed the line but this year I cut off about 30 feet from each tip up. I have heritage lakers and have the spools filled all the way. I have only been fishing lakes and ponds in my area up to 15 feet deep so figured starting fresh for me would be as simple as cutting off 30 feet to get to the line that has never been under any load.

I changed my Dacron line last season. It's only been on 22 years. I think it was as strong as when I first spooled it.

I use the plastic coated line and I will not replace it unless the plastic is cracking off. The stuff I just replaced was over 10 years old. I see absolutely no need to place it for other reasons, it just doesn't lose strength over time. There is some memory but it doesn't cause problems. The only thing I replace are my leaders.
