New to ice fishing.
« on: Nov 16, 2017, 12:58 PM »
Been summer fishing all my life. Fairly new to the ice though. My son is an avid fisherman. Looking at Christmas for him and wondering what is the best bang for my buck for bibs and  coat.

I would suggest getting a floating suit the cost really isn't that much of a difference...but piece of mind is priceless  ...Clams Assent ...Striker Ice makes several choices ..maybe some deals coming up  Black Friday Cyber Monday.

keep an eye on this thread...every chance you can

We bought the Striker bibs and just wear normal winter coats. Once in the hut the coats come off. I figure if we go in the bibs are always on us and we never take them off.

How old is your young fisherman, he could grow out of what ever you buy him in one season. If past his growth then a floating set up sounds great, if not the floaters still sound great but you may want to check out various sites for used items. I have seen several sites where youth size floating suits for sale.

He is 16, so I'm sure some growth is in his future.  I found  a set from Striker I like.     http://www.strikerstore.com/White-Out-Stalker-Bib-p/219060.htm

He is a hunter too, Maybe he can multi-use them.

Maybe buy them a bit big. They are relatively adjustable so when he gets taller or puts weight on they should still work for him. I have a set of Carhartt Bibs from high school that I can still squeeze into. Good luck on your decision!

Only 40 g of insulation ...if you get them in a larger size and some layering you could use the on the ice ..the Striker  Ice Predator model have 100 g insulation ...Black Friday and  Cyber Monday may have some deals ...Dicks has 20% off now . Northland Tackle has a deal on the SI  suit too ..the bibs have an adjustable inseam up to 6 inches I believe.
