i'm planning to lay eyes on Moorland Pond tomorrow if my wisdom teeth sockets let me, I'm sure the small pond just east of Brushy Creek has a decent layer of ice on it, everything in there's small but if you're lookin for action it'll be fantastic

The ponds I checked weren't quite ready yet but with colder nights coming should be safe soon

Not looking good here in southern Iowa, less than 2 inches on a couple of ponds I re-checked again today and with a few days in the 40's coming up looks like we are going to take a step backwards on building good ice.

yesterday was one windy s.o.b and most of the bigger ponds that had pockets of open water were blown 75 to 90 percent open with the 40's in the forcast id say it will be a bit end of next week before it stays below freezing

Made it out on one small pond here in des moines today. but I ended up sittin on the ADA dock at easter catching dink crappies out of a small patch of open water. It still felt good to feel a tug.

I was on a bus and just happened to be sitting on a news paper. This guy came up and asked. "Are you reading that ?"
I said  yes, stood up, turned the page and sat back down.

Somebody either lighter or braver than me made it out to deep water over a small pond by Iowa City today.

The ice I checked there and elsewhere was just over 2", so I am going to wait for the next cold snap to fish down here.

I checked a small pond today that had 3" of ice and some backwaters off of the Cedar River that had 2" to 4" of ice. All in the city limits of Cedar Rapids. The ice was definately thinnest where a little snow had accumulated on the ice so be careful of that.  Game on and good luck.

Fished 3 farm ponds today in NE IA and had anywhere from 3-6" of good ice. All ponds were fairly slow but caught fish at each. Good to get out and catch a few fish though including a nice walleye.

After the warm up here in des moines today its over for a while. One pond i was checking yesterday is totally rotten now and will probably be open by end of day tomorrow if the wind comes up.

I was on a bus and just happened to be sitting on a news paper. This guy came up and asked. "Are you reading that ?"

I'm thinking up by Fort Dodge, there should be some good ice on the ponds.  One I go to now, has a lot of small bluegills, but a fairly nice range of crappie sized anywhere from 6 - 12 inches.  Problem is, he has an aerator on the pond, so gotta wait til there is a good 4 inch average, as you can go 2 ft in any direction and get different thickness of Ice!!  Be careful out there!!

Nice gills ripNlips  I got out today and had similar results caught a limit of gills 9-11" and 2 bass 4-6lbs and 3 catfish 3-6lbs . The ice in ringold count was only 4-5" but it was a great day to be one ice . ;D

All fish were released into hot oil..... I would guess that 3/12 have just a skim on the main lake and a ton of geese like normal

3and 12 are locked up but still pretty thin . I would give then a week or so just to be on the safe side but the smaller lakes should be good later his week

Checked a pond south of the border and west of Maryville, MO.  Had 3" to 2 1/2" of ice.
