Nice find DR.Speckler  congratulations. I still have a few old Penn bait casters that belonged to my paternal grandparents. Things have sure advanced since then with level wind, magnetic drag control, etc. I still see people fishing with the older model reels and rods many have been passed down through the families.

There sure were a lot of new innovations made to casting reels back in the 50's. They were still a pain to use. The first spinning reel I had, came from Japan and like all stuff from there at the time, it was crap but still better than a casting reel. My son has the solid glass rod that came with the reel.

Most of the reels I use today are old Shakespeare 2062 spinning reels. I am lurking to bid on a 2052 ultra lite on an online auction this week. I have a few of those on my perch fly rods. I also have a bunch of Shakespeare Wonder Rods. One fly rod has to be one of the last made as it goes together like modern rods with out the metal ferrules.

I collect penn reels and have over 50 currently.i use 209s and  penn peerless no.9s for catfishing. any older penn made in the usa is a rock solid reel that while last many life times and easy to maintain.i also like abu garcias but prices keep me from collecting too many but I have at least 8 6500c3s.

Today was the first day in a long while I spent a couple hours in a nearby 40 acre flea market. I never saw anything fishing related that I NEEDED. I did see some one with a sign I needed desperately after I found a few bottle rocket remains in my yard and on my roof this morning that I knew were aimed my way by a neighbor.

FOR SALE
BY NEIGHBOR

I did make one other purchase. I had picked up a turkey box call and gave it a couple strokes. When I sat it down I noticed a turkey call that was made by a now deceased friend. That came home with me.

I was waiting to talk to one of the dealers at the flea market when a guy tried to pay me fore some thing. I recognized the voice and said" I will take your money wharf rat but I do not think that the booth owner would appreciate me taking it. It was the son of my former boss from 20 years ago. The boys got that nickname as they were always on the water as they lived on the outlet of a lake.

I just missed out on a Hummingbird fish finder of some type Friday morning. Also in the guys pile ( dude there before me) was a brand new Lazer hand Auger. After going to a NILS I wasn't to upset about the Lazer. But the Hummingbird would have been a nice score. The people were asking a few bucks for everything there.

Nice score Friday!! About 20 vintage wooden hardwood tipups and a small metal tackle box with at least 50 (Maybe More) Swedish Pimples and other small to medium jigging type metal spoons. Some made in Finland. Some tiny, some medium! Super cool stuff. There was also a few jigging Raps, one never opened

looking at an aluminum rod tube at a garage sale yesterday for $4.00, paid the guy, then asked if the rod inside went with it. He said "it's empty" So I told him since it's mine I'll keep whatever's in it. I unscrewed the cap, pulled out the fleese rod bag, and took out a very nice 9ft 6wt, hand built fly rod. He said "that's my brother in laws rod" I said "no, it's mine, I paid you $4.00 for it." Yes I kept it.
