Depends on the forage ...gota match the hatch so to speak ...I tend to stick with perch and minnow patterns ...love glow jigs/plastics. I seen them rise up and pass a jig tipped with a waxie only to strike the silver ball bearing swivel two feet up .

I love pink and red glow for gills.

I like more natural colors for gills like black, brown and some red or white. but pink or white glow patterns work too.

I like pink, black, purple, perch, red, chartreuse, sometimes green and as small as you care to go. Now that I see it out there maybe the color doesn't matter much or maybe it varies wildly.

I tend to stick with perch patterns and glow when it comes to jigs. Anything flashy when it comes to spoons. Red and chartreuse plastics. But for gills, I don't think color matters, get what looks good to you and then you just gotta work it.

Classic, check your water.

Dark stained water, glow jigs
Milky translucent water, dark color jigs
Clear, match the hatch, red, brown, pink, etc.,...

What I found to work the best......Tungsten jigs......I can hardly fish small lures anymore without tungsten. Walmart had a heck for a deal on Beaver Damn Tungsten jigs last winter. At the end of winter they clearances them for $0.50.

Now when it comes to color, GOLD & SILVER are MUST HAVES. That's what I fish  90% of the time. I do fish other colors when I get a deal on them. If color is needed I found the small plastics I put on to be my "color" It's a lot easier having a gold jig and a silver jig on one, and then just slipping on and off different color plastics to find the magic combo.

Overalls my favorite is a gold jig with a red plastic body.

Had great luck using custom jigs n spins 3mm tungsten clown color tipped with a wax worm. Also moon jigs in orange and chartruse are my old favorite.

Lots of things dictate color,as some have already stated.I use lots of red in clear 10' or less water, tipped with a morsel.By the way,Goshen, and Elkhart are two places I nearly moved to a couple years ago, love the area.

Size and amount of bait you put on your jig can also dictate if you get bites or not. I noticed people catching bluegills around me but I didn't start catching until I downsized to a tiny gil pill.
