Hi All,
Finally home from work after 5 days away, finally get to fish again!! 5 days off now and 5 days on the ice for me, its below -10 so the wife probably wont even bother walking down the lawn to get me!!!!YAY!
Anyway, managed to get out a bit further as the ice is pretty much 6-8" thick, although the spot on the ice i paced out last February which produced non- stop action is covered by a large dark area of ice...thought it best to avoid just to be safe.
Got the lines down by 2:30pm and by 4pm had 2 walleye, 1 was 14" the other around 9".......SUPPER. Missed a load of bites and a nice 25-30" jack spat the hook as it's head popped through the hole.
Got some jig advice from Icejunky, Seaweed and Ravinerat (thanks guys) and from their suggestions decided to use a glow chartreuse/perch pattern Eye-dropper on one line and used an orange glow airplane type jig on my other line, both with a nice medium minnow. The eye-dropper got the most action and both walleye, whilst the orange attracted the jackfish.
I did get distracted though and missed most of the bites just at happy hour as the sun was setting cuz i started taking pictures of the fabulous sunset behind the house....see below.
