I gotta go with Crappie.  Walleye are a distant second.

When I posted this question, I had to do alot of thinking to pick just one species.  As a number of you said they are all fun to catch, and many are tasty.   If I had lakes where I could consistently catch decent size perch, that would probably be my species of choice.  I also love catching northerns on tipups.  If I can get a little more familiar with these lakes here, I may change my taget species to walleye.  I ended up deciding on crappie because of size, availability, action, and eating quality.  It is just interesting to hear everyones opinion.
That's why I said I like to catchem all. Here where I live, we have  enough lakes close to each other to catch every type of fish. ;D

If it's a one fish choice it's walter all the way, but crappies and perch are great fun too. Then again, who cares what's on the other end when you are running for .

It's a toss up between perch and crappies for me. But those big bull gills are are a close third!

Hmmm, if we're talking food, I'd choose cusk(burbot), plus being a night owl, I love to stay out for them into the wee hours.

They come up like a tire, though...not a whole lot of challenge lol.

Thinkin 'bout cusk on the grill......

It's a toss up for me also! It would be between Crappies, Bluegills, Perch, Walleye, Northern Pike, Trout...

Same here Bart.

I don't think I could pin it down to just one.  Perch are easy enough, Walleye and Northern can be a trick to jig up but are totally worth the effort, and trout - man, love the feeling of pulling a log from the bottom.....

So - I vote what ever's biting that day!   ;D

Hard to pick... Around here we have plenty of gills and perch, very few eyes and pike fishing is limited. For eating thru the ice I like White Perch best, but for fun and size I will go down a different road and say Bass. We have lots of them both SM and LM. They fight hard (great on a jigging rod), bite great and get big, with my bets over 9 lb thru the ice... Once again I am the odd man out.
