Just One Species
« on: Sep 03, 2012, 12:58 PM »
If you could only fish for one species of fish, what would it be?

For me, it would come down to Crappie or Northern, with Crappie being the species of choice.

Perch.  Targeting perch gets me plenty of other species as 'by-catch'.
And they tend to be a bit on the tasty side... ;)

Perch are delicious !  but I'd rather catch and fillet a few walleye then 30 perch..
If you get the chance, take a trip to lake Erie.  Plenty of perch charters at a reasonable price.  It is possible to get your limit (30) in a few hours !!

Not sure of the best place under the ice, as I don't put much time into catching them..

When I posted this question, I had to do alot of thinking to pick just one species.  As a number of you said they are all fun to catch, and many are tasty.   If I had lakes where I could consistently catch decent size perch, that would probably be my species of choice.  I also love catching northerns on tipups.  If I can get a little more familiar with these lakes here, I may change my taget species to walleye.  I ended up deciding on crappie because of size, availability, action, and eating quality.  It is just interesting to hear everyones opinion.
