Trailer Hinges
« on: Dec 08, 2014, 04:44 AM »
I went out to work on my shanty and found that over the summer the hinges to the side door were froze by rust. The back door also had some rust issues. Better I found out before it was too cold to work on them. Looks like my gear is getting old, just like me!

The problem was when the door opened it pulled (stripped) the hinge bolts. I had to re-drill and install a larger set of bolts. Last year the rear fold down door hinge froze up. Had to use a torch and motor oil to free it up. But this year the top of the door frame swelled from rust and made the door stick. I figure the road salt got around the door and is eating it up.

Just giving a heads up to you guys to keep an eye for rust on your trailers.
