You know you have too much stuff when you're too tired to fish after you pull all that gear out there.

Never too tired to fish, but sure do work up a sweat sometimes. That is not a good thing either.

When the ice is thick enough I tow a 5X8 trailer with my quad and load everything up for a whole day of fun, right down to a full size gas grill to cook on.

Looks like you have a pretty normal loadout.

2 Med Light rods
2 ultra light rods
2 med heavy rods
power auger and/or mora auger
spud
ice skimmer
2 six gallon pickle buckets w/seats  one with minnows one with tackle
two rod holders
jig tackle box
spoon tackle box
misc tackle box (tape measure, forceps, needle nose pliers, knife, flashlight, matches, headlamp, lead weights, hooks, line, etc)
spikes and wax worms
2 to 4 tipups depending on company or not (in a 3rd bucket)
tip up tackle box (quick strike rigs, leaders, bobbers, weights, line)
Lowrance x67c
Cabela's underwater camera
digital camera
miniDV camcorder (for hooking up to the underwater camera or catching video above ice)
cellphone
mp3 player/FM radio
12V lantern
Coleman SportCat heater
3 1lb propane tanks
100 ft rope in toss bag

lunch
beer
coffee thermos

all this goes in the sled, the Clam 2000 hooks behind the sled or gets pulled by whoever else is out with me

Wow, and i thought i was dragging out too much gear. That is quite a load there. You don't seem to have alot trouble pulling all of that by hand? Would be easy with no snow on the ice.

I can still lift the sled into the truck bed without help if the jiffy isn't in the sled.  I guess typed out it looks like a lot but it is all something that I've wanted once or twice when out on the ice and didn't have it.  Forgot the GPS in the previous list.

Other than the electronics, the sled stays loaded in the garage for a quick load and out.

Here is my theory on this:

#1 - It depends how far you are away from your vehicle... Keep in mind: You don't want to wear yourself out getting to one spot. Make it easy for yourself, especially if you are not using all of the equipment.

#2 - How many people are with you. If it is just you, I would say keep 3/4 of that stuff in the truck... Keep 1 extra of everything, that way you have what you need. Plus, it is a lot harder to loose stuff when you can count on two fingers everything you brought out.

Personally, I bring:
Shanty(First time for this year. Just got it)
2 poles
Small box of jigs, etc
Minnow bucket if fishing for crappie
Auger or hatchet(If someone has an old hole where I normally fish)
Scooper
Lantern
2 tipups

Most of this stuff I can put in a bucket, which saves me from having to stack it all on the shanty. Mine I have to carry, so this makes it even that much more convienient. Hope that helps@!

Right now:

Spud
Ice Picks

Bucket with:
Lowrance
UL rod, Medium Rod with spring bobber so it can go either way (with just the change of a spool)
ice scooper thingie

on body:
waxies
spikes
two very small tackle boxes with asst tackle
hemo's
knife

Now...in the next couple weeks I'll start with an old rail sled, then I'll add my auger and a seat of some sort.  I like to stay mobile, so I use my bucket for my fish and a seat to sit on.

To much gear is not a problem unless your pulling it for a long haul behind a sled or four wheeler.... you take off your shanty cover and it looks like you put all your gear in a spin cycle or blender. Then your spending an hour sorting it all out (tangled rods/lines broken lantern globes) when you could of been half way to your limit on fish. Stick to the basics and pack securely.
"Oh honey don't worry ice fishing season is almost over"     Oh Yeah, then we got steelhead, then bass, then big lake salmon, then fall river salmon........etc.

I put eye bolts into the lip of my sled and use rubber straps to hold everything in place.  Nothing moves.  I guess I learned from strapping milk crates down on the top of my Clam 2000.  If you don't have everything arranged just right and strapped down properly then you end up loosing items while pulling it across the ice, like dozens of pairs of gloves over a season.   ::)

Ive got the Yukon w/ the Clam harness atatchment to my snowmobile. It works well but things do get jared around a lot on a 7mi treck from the S. end of Higgins Lake to the N. end at 30-40 MPH.

I weighed my equipment, and it all weighs around 80lbs give or take a little. Add a 55lb shanty and your pulling 135lbs. I guess that's not too bad. I sure wish i had a quad though. I think it is worth it to have all of the equipment needed for the job.

I keep it simple. If you need a sled to haul the stuff, you're making it too difficult. I take a bucket with 2 tip ups, 2 rods, and ice skimmer extra jigs and waxies in my pocket, my auger and a small minnow bucket for chubs. Someday I hope to get a aqua vu. I have a clam but I hardly ever use it cause it's hardly ever bad enough to need it in southern Michigan and I'm usually too worn out from hauling in monsters all day to pull too much weight ;)

Depends on what I need to do. Can drag a Scout, with enough stuff to stock a small bait shop, and plan to stay awhile using a tree stand harness attached to the ropes with really no problem, except in heavy/deep snow. Jet sled, couple of buckets and asst. (reality, an interesting concept) essentials for running and gunning and/or reasonable weather. Or a trappers wicker backpack and snowshoes if it's really a b!t<h on the ice but nice(?) out.

Most people don't bring all of the ice gear they own out on the ice at once. I think the best thing to go by is; if you spend the whole day setting up, then you brought too much out.
You can never have too much gear!
