Rain
« on: Dec 09, 2007, 06:26 PM »
The rain might put a damper on the ice for another week or so. Suppose to be in mid 30's all week in SE Michigan so that doesn't help either.

It's my fault, I apologize. I finally bought that shanty I've been looking at for 3 years. Now I've doomed us for any ice this year.  ;)

Ahh, that ice will be just fine. The rain we recieve today just melted the snow/ slush on the ice and will tighten up great overnight. They are talking cold weather throughout the week, I wouldn't sweat it.  But I WOULD get out and fish it! ;D

look at this way, this time last year we had very little ice and 40's everyday.  it didn't get cold until 2nd week of january.  we are ahead of last year by 3-4 weeks.  it's supposed to hover around freezing for the highs and mid to low 20's for lows.  this weekend is supposed to start another cold snap!

I am just disappointed that everyone else has already been out and now it will be set back. All this talk of early fishing was getting me too hyped up.

There won't be any set backs if you get out this weekend. The ice will be fine. Unless you like 6" of ice or more to walk on.

Hi to all.  I am located in Southern Kent county.  Currently 33 F, with light rain.  The 3 lakes I drive by on my way home look terrible.  I wouldn't go near them right now.  Tonight more rain, turning to snow.  Today has set us back a couple of weeks.  Only positive in the forecast is Saturday night lows around 17 F.

let's not worry about the weather and temps.  like a few said earlier on the post, this rain will be a blessing in disguise.  these fishable lakes now will only be better, as tonight it get's down to the mid to low 20's.  we will all be out somewhere next weekend!  this rain that we did get will freeze easily overnight.  tommorrow is only going to be 32 degrees at my place and low 20's again wednesday night.  remember even if the temps are going to mid 30's, it will only be mid 30's for a few hours, then it drops back down again for the overnight chill.  if we don't get any 40 degree days, we will be good to go next weekend!

Come on people, stay positive. it'll make it through one day of rain. I was out fishing Sunday before last after the other big rain we got, and that ice survived just fine. And that was 2 inches of ice. It'll be ok! :D

Yea its too bad I can't get paid for ice fishing. Of course when the ice melts I'd have to switch to softwater fishing for a job. Oh darn.

went out at lunch today to a pond in northville and the rain had froze on top and made about 1 1/2 of white ice but still had a good 3 1/2 of crystal clear underneath.  Like I always say walk softly and carry an ugly stick!!!!!

Rain turned snow into slush, froze over last night. Some areas had the 2 layers, some frozen solid. Tonight will lock everything up tight. Ice was NOT EFFECTED underneath the water layer.

;D  went out and checked my lake today, and the rain helped bigtime.  it's clear smooth, slush and snow free.  checked ice and it was still at 4 inches but did seam pretty solid.  give it another week and i will have 6-inches of solid fishable ice!

Fished South River Rd. by the bar Wed. AM. 3 ", first inch was slushy.Could see the bottom in about 3 feet of water. Kept 35. One 10 ",the rest were between 71/2-8". Probably threw back 50. Went back @4pm. The shoreline ice was soft. Boots got wet getting on the good ice. That sun was a killer for the ice. Decided not to fish the PM.

Was out yesterday in Jackson county 12/12 and there was plenty of ice all day stayed till about sundown.  On McDougel lake.... I guess, a small lake fed from Little Wolf Lake of the Center lake chain.  Fishing was moderate though as they where moving around a lot.

A buddy of mine and I went out to a lake  that you have to walk the edge of a river to get out to it. Well, three days prior, me and another guy got out there partially walking the shore ice along the river, partially walking through the swamp along the river. So anyways, my buddy fell through up to his waist once on the way out, he went to the truck and changed, then I put a leg through to my knee and decided to tough it out. Got to the lake which had 4" to 6", caught 3 crappie, then on the way back, buddy falls through to his waist AGAIN, then I put my other leg through up to my knee. I think I'll give that place a one week rest ;)
