GAS PRICES will it hurt ?
« on: Feb 22, 2011, 07:30 PM »
Well its hit us hard in the north gas just raised to $3.40gal and more raises on the way.  Looks like Ill be doing more planing to cut down the traveling cost and be doing more local lake fishing.

How about you, do you plan to cut costs somehow?

As much as I don't like to see the gas prices jump, a $0.30 jump in price isn't going to stop me from doing what I want.  On a 200 mile round trip, at 20 mpg, so 10 gallons of gas for the trip, that would be a $3 increase for the cost of the trip.  So don't buy a pop and a candy bar at the gas station and you broke even.

I've heard it will be over $4 a gal. by the end of the year, and around $5 by election time in Nov. 2012   I need to find lake front property so I don't have to travel as much!

I like most Americans will learn to deal with the higher gas prices and adjust
my way of life so I can do what I enjoy. The price increase will not be felt too
hard untill the trickle down factor occurs, higher fuel prices raise the price on
everything we buy. Then we will readjust and do it again. All in all I think we
should not have to pay higher gas prices when the oil companies are making
record profits every year. The consumer pays for all new corporate expenses
and then they just cry about how they need a new refinery or some kind of
plant.Shouldn't they reinvest their record profits to pay for this like any other
business???     End of Rant

All in all it will change the way I do things a little now, a little later, and in
10 years we can look back and say HOLY CRAP!! :o :o :o

Gas will hit $5 bucks, cause someone has to pay for the BP screwup. BP wont pay for it they just pass that cost to the customers. Luckily a lake is within walking distance for me.

Made the scale back the trips deal the last time gas went weird. Have 8 good bodies of water I understand well within 12 miles of my house. Not hard to figure out how to catch a decent meal on lakes I've fished since the 60s. Speculators are having a field day with the Middle East mess and the present administration having no idea what energy policy to use(if any), we're screwed

i drive about 25k-30k miles a year,
only reason i may drive less is because will have a newborn,
so slightly shorter trips,
still at 25k milesgenerally spend about $300/month on gas,
Going up to  $400/month will hurt but wont change my trips,
as i get aggravated at every fill up,
worth it when i get to my destinations, whether its for fishing, hiking, camping, etc...

As bad as everything is, nothing has changed in the middle east. As much as I hate them, Our oil companies are taking this opportunity to stick it to us once again. Maybe we need to march on our Capitol,

March on the capitol? This problem is out of our hands, and even if it was the current president would have not idea where to start. More that likely he will use his usuall tactics. That would  be go over to the middle east and grovel.

Heard that. Raised the price on my customers last year to make up for lost ground. I hope they can solve things over there fast. Dought that, they have been fighting over since the begining of time. I think this will flow like a tidlewave trough the region. Now they have something to fight for. The same thing we take for granted every day. FREEDOM

With the media blowing everything  out  of  proportion (sp) it will for  sure go way up.  Pretty bad when  our  news media doesn't  know the facts before they spew it all over.  When that  ice  blew out  a few years ago down in Ohio on Lake Erie they made it  sound like we lost a war.  Everyone of those guys  could of  got off the ice safely if they just went  east  a couple of miles.  I agree  it wasn't the brightest idea  to go out there  with the  offshore winds that were forecasted but  the  people reporting did not have a clue to anything abot icefishing.  They just  took everything and turned it into a negative.

They raised the price of there oil to 100.00 a barrel, we should raise the price of our wheat to 100.00 a bushel..

I agree with Princecraft!!!  Raise the price of wheat and corn to $200 a bushel to offshore folks and watch them eat their oil!  Just gotta love it!

Just slow down your driving if possible.  I have found that I can save about 10 bucks a week on my drive to work by keeping the rpm's at 2000 while driving in the highway, which means I drive 68 instead of 75 (yeah, I know, not suppose to go that fast, but try to stay with the flow when it's busy).  Ten bucks a week adds up to a lot of new equipment or a couple of fishing trips each year.
