Gator hunting Mar21

Whiteshell gator hunting was OK yesterday, no real big ones but we did get 4 between 32 -35.5 and missed a couple. Chub mackerel on tip-ups worked best fished in about 20ft of water.

Don't forget your sunscreen or you will have a face like a tomato... forgot mine and look like a very redfaced raccoon today...

What an awesome day to be fishin... here are a couple of pics.

   Good show Duramax.  They're still fun, even if they aren't the biggest of the big.

Great report on the other site wpgsteve. Is that you with that beauty?
On sinking the bait those are great tips. I just resorted to making a slit in the belly of the bait fish and letting it fill with water.

I have a great tip for sinking bait, smelt in particular. We designed a hook for pike fishing, it is like a spreader rig. 2-  2 inch steel line leads with a treble attached to the end com off a swivel so it can open up to about 6 inches, then we made a weight on a wire similar to a bottom bouncer only 2 inch of wire on each side of the weight. Then you can feed one end of the wire up towards the head and one end towards the tail so the weight is tight to the bottom of the belly, you hook one treble at the front and one at the back and it holds your smelt perfectly natural.

I make sure it is thawed as if frozen at all it will float. Using the mackeral and sardines you don't have pierce the air bladder but with tulibee and other larger stuff you need to puncture the bladder and squeeze the body to remove air. I have seen guys pinch spilit shot onto the trebles as well. As natural, horizontal and lightweight as possible are my thoughts.

Not sure about the nails and weights inside the bait, as this ends up in the fish sometimes and can't be good for them...

Do the leaves of trees stay greener, in the autumn, does the colour of the sun, turn crimson white? Does a shadow come between us, in the winter?
