Lets see your home made setup for preventing your auger from dropping down the hole for those that use a drill attachment.

I swiped my mom's cake pan, I think it's for an upside down cake or something. I drilled a hole through all 4 sections and ran a threaded rod through pan and shaft holes and put a nut and washer on both sides of each section of pan and on both sides of shaft to lock everything together, and I cut the threaded rod off on both outside edges of the pan just enough to put a washer, a nut, and a rounded acorn nut on tightly. It works great. No sharp edges to catch your clothes or gut, and it stops your auger from going for a swim. Just hope mom doesn't decide to make a cake too soon .

I see you got that bit covered up now. Looks good. I'm telling your mom about the pan though. LOL

Yep, but that big bit is getting cut off, and I'm welding a short one that's only 1\2" thick on. I takes a bit of juice just to get to the blades. It did keep the auger from jumping, though. No more pineapple upside down cake for me :'(.

Look out for those nuts on the outside catching something. I would not use it that way.

The nuts on the outside are those round acorn nuts. I purposly let them hit my coat to test them and they didn't catch, just bounced off.

Why didn't you just bolt it to the center shaft without the nuts out side? The center of the cone only. Even if you needed to drill the holes through, the outside nuts aren't needed.

The cone is just crimped on, and I thought it might seperate if it would fall and hit the ice, but that probably would work, too.

I just cut a 7" piece of 1/4" plywood slid it on the pipe I used for the adapter. It hits the roll pin on top so it can't slide off.

I use a circular piece of plastic cutting board thats 1 inch larger in diameter than my auger. Hole in center is slightly oversized and a large washer above holds it on.
God grant me strength to catch a fish
So large that even I
When telling of it afterwards
May never need to lie.
