Flashers
« on: Nov 18, 2013, 03:11 PM »
The Flashers that one uses for trolling , has anyone tried drilling a separate hole and dropped a set of Flashers down to use an attractor ? I know as long as there is no hooks on , it wouldn't count as an additional rod . Thanks

That makes sense but what about a shallow lake like Lake John for trout?

Trout are easy to catch at John without any flashers-

You're right about them being easy to catch at John , I was that just using it as an example . Has anyone used them for trout in a shallow lake?

Not sure what your definition of "shallow" is.  Lat year, was next to a guy in 20FOW and he was using cow bells(flasher)  rig.  It was his homemade windshield wiper box that auto-raised/lowered.  It was late in the season and said he finds it helpful to draw them in when the fish are lethargic

I never thought about using a cow bell like that.  Did you actually see it deliver better results?

he didn't catch anything more than anyone else - couldn't tell if he brought in more fish or not - didn't have eyes on his sonar unit   He of course swore by it as others I've spoken to over the years

You know what they say..."Whatever works for ya!"...

I would venture to guess the cow-bell thing could work both ways. It might bring fish in, or then again, it could scare them off. I have seen them used a lot at Eleven Mile. I'm not sure the bells brought the Kokes in, or if they were already there? Interesting topic!

May work for kokes. I know we've had a couple days when we had a big group, 8-10, jigging pimples for kokes we were able to hold a school in the same area for a couple hours when no one around us was pulling fish even with the same setups we were using. Usually they are a blow through an area quick sort of fish too so we were surprised.

I use 2 to 3 strings of cow bells on a jigging machine (windshield wiper motor) when going after kokes, never used it for trout though.  It keeps them interested in the area long enough to get a few or more as they swim through.
