Ice fishing trip suggestions
« on: Dec 04, 2010, 08:59 PM »
I am gonna be taking my 8 year old on a weekend fishing trip later this winter. I have mainly fished winnebago my whole life but would like to take him "up north".
Any suggestions on a good smaller lake. Maybe some suggestions on lodging?

It depends on how far north you want to go. I would recommend Long Lake in Washburn county. I would also suggest Lincolnwood resort located right on the lake. Great people that own it and you can fish right out in front of there with good results or travel to different areas they would suggest. Good luck.

Need more info -

How far do you want to drive?
What type of fish are you after?
How "hardcore" are you?    (just fishing or do you want a plan "B" to keep the kid happy / entertained?)

Looking at 3-4 hour drive from fond du lac maximum. Fishing is entertainment for the kid! He loves it as much as me so I am not looking for other stuff to do.  We are on the ice as much as we can be every season! I think I have created a fishing machine with my son! He can fish and fish and fish even when I am ready to pack it up....he wants to stay! Looking to get into some nice perch and gills, with a bit of 'eye time as well. Was looking into Lake Gogebic in Michigan,Anyone ever fished it? Perch look HUGE!!!!!

We usually go once or twice a year around the Minocqua area. A lot of lakes to fish around there. We usually stay at a buddies in-laws cabin so I am not sure about lodging.

The minocqua area is great! We like going on Tomahawk Lake near Indian Shores campground. Great panfishing area and then just a a little deeper the walleye fishing is equally as good.

The Chetek chain offers good panfishing ... I like Prairie Lake, north end by the aerators.  Lots of lakes in the area worth fishing.

I would stay at the Skyview lodge in Presque Isle. Lots of great lakes.
Plus it is owned by an avid fisherman. Adam Johnson
