throwing in the towel
« on: Feb 25, 2016, 12:05 PM »
I'm done for the season. thought about going this weekend but theres no way the ice can come back from the damage caused last night and today. if any of you are going to attempt to get on ice this weekend, be safe. you might even want to wear a life jacket just in case. i can't even believe the derby is still on.

Was thinking the same thing myself - I drove by Willand pond today and it's pretty much done. The shoreline is all open and it looks as though the middle of the pond is open now as well (looked to be a flock of ducks out there swimming).

What a shame. Really wanted to get my son out one more time.

There is plenty of safe ice to be had. I was on a 2 trap lake today with a solid 8"

Common sense and a sharp chisel could be lifesavers this weekend.

Im not in anyway insinuating that there is lots of safe ice. That's probably a bad statement on my part. But there is definitely good ice t be found :)

Now comes the fun part... because although there may be places with safe ice, you have to FIND them!

And then when you find them you realize that probably everyone else within a 20 mile radius has found it too!

Then it becomes a physics problem, trying to figure how many people (and gear) can xx inches of ice support?

Play safe, fish smart and let the fun begin!

X2....you actually have to get out and scout for those spots that still hold good ice. I did just that today and it was well worth it. I found many spots that were still good, so now I have backups.
Seasons definetely not over.

Greetings from mass, I always try to help fellow anglers any way I can. I'm looking to get out at least one more time.  I'm probably going solo and would be very appreciative for any info pointing me in the right direction (other than head north lol). My usual last ice pond in the Berkshire mountains is toast, 6'-8' open edges. That's a 2 hour drive west for me, I'll just go north if I have a destination to try. I'm more than happy to share any info with anyone that travels to mass in the future. I'm just south of Worcester. Thanks for reading, I hope to hear from someone. PM is ok too. Thanks Keith.

Fished winnipesaukee this morning a perch and a bunch of small sunnies..... We got there at 530am found anywhere from 8 inches to 11 inches. One hole had 13 or 14 inches. Ice was pretty white we walked out close to a mile. The wind was brutal.
Every fish is a good fish!
