The ledgend of Winky lives on
« on: Mar 21, 2015, 05:59 PM »
So I've heard stories of a lake trout in Sebago with one eye.

The story goes it was hooked in the eye by a Shanty member?? and as they got it  near the boat they lost the fish but the eye was still on the hook, sounded like another fish story until today.

As I was loading my truck up, a guy with his two young kids started loading their gear, I asked the kids if they had caught anything, they both got very excited, showed me a few lake trout in a bucket, and said "but you should of seen the one we lost at the hole, it only had one eye!!!!"

That's crazy. Are they sure it wasn't a snow snake?
May God bless and keep you always, may your wishes all come true.
May you always do for others and let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung,
May your hands always be busy, may your feet always be swift.
May you have a strong foundation when the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful, may your songs always be sung.
May you stay forever young.

The "winky" story is a true one. It originated on Fish Finder several years ago. "Fishalot" (Jim) was fishing with a friend, when the friend said he was hooked on bottom. Jim told him he couldn't be, because of the amount of line he had out. When the guy couldn't gain any ground, he kept yanking hard on the rod & it finally came loose and upon retrieve, he found a very, very large eye ball.   Winky lives on. :)

It would be too bad to catch winkie and find he is in the slot limit and have to put him back.

True story

Winkiy  - AKA - Walter before he lost his eyeball has been swimming in Sebago for years !

Last time I saw him was near Frye's Leap about 6 years ago when he shook the hook at the boat  >:(

I will never forget that day, As I was shocked to see a giant Lake Trout with a patch over his eye .

I was trolling Sebago a few years back, and hooked up with a large fish, and after a short fight
it was off.  Upon reeling in to check if I still had a lure, I had a very large eyeball, still attached
to the hook.  Looked like it could have been a laker.
