tip up rig?
« on: Dec 31, 2010, 09:08 PM »
when im jigging i always set tip ups ou if the action is good an usually pick up some nice craps on them, i have been using 12lb floro cause you never know what you mite get. wonder if i would get more bites if i dropped the line to say 6lb or 8lb floro? what you guys use?

Well that's the rule of thumb the thinner the line the better chance of getting a bit is. Well at least that's what i go by. On my tip ups i was 6lb on my smaller ones and 10lb on my bigger tip ups.

I rerigged from 4lb to 8lb and now i'm rerigging back to 4lb because of the noticable decrease in bites.

I just tie up different sized quick strike rigs....tied about 18"-24" long....
4lb test w/ #16 trebs. for crappie.
8lb. w/ #12 trebs. for 'eyes
20lb. w/ #6-#8 trebs for pike.
I keep a swivel on the end of my dacron & it makes switching the rigs for different species quick & easy.
For storage/transport, I wrap them around a short piece of pool noodle just like my crawler harnesses for summer trolling.
If you ever get hit with a bucket of fish, be sure to close your eyes. ;)
