I like ShoreLunch. Add a little beer and you're ready for a good meal.

If you're looking for a store bought mix.....I have not had better than Babe Winkelman's Cajun mix....absolutely OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!

try, pancake mix but use beer instead of water. takes time to get the right constisty. I also put in a little creole seasoning for spice. Only way my wife eats fish.

I'm kind of boring I guess. Just corn meal and salt-n-pepper. Cooked in light olive oil. I like all that other stuff, especially shorelunch, but I never seem to have it around when I'm ready to cook. I always have my box of corn meal in the cupboard. Man I can't wait to get on the ice!

I have had a lot of store batters and enjoyed most. This however is my favorite for any fried fish. Simply mix equal parts of flour and cornmeal then coat your fillet and let it stand for 10 mins or so. This will prevent the coating from being soggy when fried. You can season if you wish but since walleye, perch, and gills are mild I dont like to mask there flavor.

I agree. The main reason I like cornmeal is that I can still taste the fish. I do mix mine with flour sometimes also. If I have thick fillets that can cook long enough to brown. Otherwise if its small perch or crappie the fillets will overcook if I try to brown the flour. Cornmeal is already crunchy so you don't have to cook the smaller fillets any longer than they need to. I guess you guys that deep fry have the advantage there. I might have to get a deep fryer.

My favorite is simple. Take a filet to seasoned flour, milk and egg wash, and one more time in the seasoned flour. Mmmm..,

I like Andy's red. I think it is just a tad too salty though. Could probably dilute it with a little more cornmeal. I really like the cornmeal instead of flour though.

the best one I have had so far is dip in lemon juice, then flour and pepper mix, then dip in egg, and dip in smashed saltines, parmaesan chesse, and parsley then pan fry in olive oil. Serve with beer. Better then any shore lunch or store boughten junk that has beer mixed in it. the other way I do it is a blackend way by mixing all the hot sh!t you can find pan fry in olive oil till it flakes, serve with dirty rice with extra red pepper in it. awsome for cleaning out the system served with beer and the cleaning will come sooner. :) ;) ;D ;D

Friend introduced me to 'Chicken on the Run' this year.  Its quickly become a crowd favorite.  Several years ago when they moved to town, his dad had a fish fry and one of the local grocery operators was in attendance and soon he was carrying Chicken on the Run.   Now all our stores carry it.  I add some fresh ground pepper and same Lawrys season salt.  Add a cooler of your favorite cold beer when frying,  not in the batter stupid, beer is to be shared amongst friends and goes straight to the gut.

Fishing should be the exercise of your skills- and its rewards the places it brings you to

For the last 20 years I have been using Uncle Al's fin and fowl mix.  Haven't found anything any better and everyone that has my fish really likes it.

I like shore lunch. I just dredge fillets and cook. Keeps batter thin.

Last few years all ive been using salt, pepper added to flour with some parmesan cheese mixed in it.i like fry magic,Louisiana fish fry and drakes too.im not picky but i use coatings sparingly as i like the health benefits of the fish without making it to unhealthy while frying.
