2013 Shanty Build
« on: Nov 29, 2013, 05:11 PM »
I started this build last winter and didnt get it finished, and finally am finding the time to get at it. I am always looking for other ideas and ways to "repurpose" items for the ice shack. Alot of the stuff on this shack is recycled or reused. Amost all the lumber, except the treated
floor and runners, was construction lumber I use for my concrete business that I ripped down. The panelling a contractor buddy of mine saved from a remodel job. The orangish wood was scrap engineered siding from my dads new house, the ceiling is t&G trim that they had on clearence at menards for $8.oo/ bundle(14 sq ft) with a $7.00 mail in rebate/bundle, I bought 10. The windows and cabinet doors I got from Restore for a $1.00 a piece. Love doing this stuff on the cheap. The lightsi got off amazon for a few buck each, i didnt put the covers on yet because I am going to put led bulbs in them. Let me know what you guys think. Love looking at all the pics on this site.

I have been laid up the last week or so with a pinched nerve in my back, so all I have been doing is thinking of stuff for the shack. I really like the tip up holder too, should be nice to keep them out of the way.
The shack is 6'x12' with 6'6" ceiling height. I am ready to start start cutting holes in the floor next, put cushions on the bench and bunk, put the flooring in. I just got the wood stove wednesday, so I cant wait to get that installed. It is coming along a little more slowly with the injury, but it will be done before we get enough ice for it. Here are a few more pics that didnt fit before.

I'm just at the stage to put the roof on my shanty and am wondering about your trusses?  Are they made from plywood or from some other material?

No doubt! I've been thinking about a way to keep my traps in the sled box I have since they are to tall to stand up, gonna have to be a copy cat on this one.

Went and got the xmas tree this morning and had enough energy when we got home to ddo a couple things. Got the 12v fan installed, 2 air vents, and a removable table for the kids. I will try to find a pic of the trusses. I changed them from the original pics a bit, but they are made out of 2x6, and I curved them instead of making a peak.

Its been -10 C here the last couple days.  I put a few logs through to burn off the oil/paint ( it smoked a lot form this )  my shack is 11x6 give er take, a camper conversion.  Today I ran it as if I wash fishing, throws heat like no ones business.  I'm happy with it.

It is a tms camp wood stove. I cant remember the model number for sure bit I think it is 2846. I got it off amazon. I wont even tell u how cheap it was. There was a lot of good reviews on it. There are always a few bad ones though but for the price it was worth the chance.
We got a few inches of ice on small lakes and bays now. Supposed to be highs in the teens by friday so we will be making good ice by the weekend. Probably take out the frabill and do a little fishing tgis weekend. Though I cant wait until I can get the big shack out for some real comfortable fishing.

Very nice build. That should keep you on the ice for a lot of hours this winter. Looks like plenty of room and should be warm.
