Most bait shops that have them in the winter have them in the warm months as well... I would just google bait shops in your area and make a couple phone calls. Easiest way to find a place in your area... I dunno where you are at, central mass is a pretty vague region lol.

Pet stores carry them at a reasonable price.

Check your local pet supply places.  Some of them sell shiners that are used to feed turtles, etc.  And some may even be operated by fishermen.  They also sell live and dried mealworms to feed birds and reptiles.

Everyone has to believe in something.  I believe I'll go fishing.

A handfull of the cheapest dogfood you can buy in the cheapest trap you can buy has been great for me.  Shiners are WAY better than the listless, half dead things I get at a bait shop in the summer around here. I always camo the rope with sticks/branches, or use heavy mono or braid to avoid theft.  And, I only leave the trap in the water overnight.  That said, I still have had them taken.  Makes no sense- they're only 7$ at Walmart.  Seems like a dumb thing to steal.  Kids maybe?

You only tried four spots!

Try putting more bait in, don't put it on gravelly bottom, and go back to where you got the one shiner and move around a few times, sometimes as little as five feet away will mean the difference between 2 shiners or 4 dozen shiners!
