walleye in PA?
« on: Jan 22, 2023, 10:14 AM »
I am looking for info for ice fishing walleye in central PA. The only place I have done ok open water is Quemahoning, but there is no ice fishing allowed on all of these water authority lakes near me (Cambria County)
Thanks in advance for any help or input.

The PA Fish Commission website has a really helpful resource that can help you identify waterways in specific counties that have been stocked with specific species over the years:

https://fbweb.pa.gov/stocking/WWCWStockingDetailsHistorical_RFP.aspx

Just select the county from the drop down menu, then select the species you want to target (walleye) and the site will give you a list of the waterways stocked with those fish. It will show the number, year and size of the fish that were stocked in each waterway.

Pro tip: it takes a few stockings over a few years to develop a fishable population of a specific species. Also the morality rate of fry and fingerlings is very high in early years so pick a lake that has been stocked repeatedly over several years with good numbers to find the best lakes with fishable populations.

Good luck!
