I use a blood knot. It' also nice to know how much line you have to the knot?  ;)

I wouldn't worry too much about it as long as the knot isn't in a place that gets a bunch of use. By that I mean if it's close to the bottom of the spool you should be fine. I don't think I would splice on 25' or 30' just to fill it the whole way as that knot will more than likely be catching on the bottom of the ice all the time. JMO

Personally I would rather not. I would not want the unspooling line to snag on any knot causing a possible drop. That said:

I also use a blood knot and it works very well with my 20lbs braided line. As well as joining the braided line to mono line for leaders.
