So my 6 year old boy got a tackle box full of ice tackle and his first ice rod for his birthday last week. I'm in idaho falls and cant go far tomorrow but wondering about roberts gravel pond or ryder park. Anyone know how the ice is on either?

Not from Sothern Idaho anymore,so i cant help you out on were to go,  but were ever you deside to do this weekend with the sons tackle box full of fishing gear I hope you post some pictures.

I was at Roberts Pond today for a little while.  Fishing was great, as it usually is at Roberts.  I only fished there for an hour and a half and caught around 50.  Ice was plenty thick, around a foot where I was.  Pulled them out as fast as I could.  Just use really little jigs that they can fit the whole thing in their mouth.  It makes it a lot easier to set the hook.  I also caught one trout and saw a bunch more swim by on the camera.  I put a pic from I took of my camera.  Lots of fish down there.

He should really enjoy Roberts.  The perch are small so don't be expecting a lot of big ones.  Just enjoy the fast catching.  Great place for kids.
