Targeting Trout?
« on: Jan 23, 2010, 01:16 AM »
I'm taking the Old Lady fishing on the Ice for the 1st time. What is a good technique for targeting trout at Fernan. I don't really fish for them, but I know she wont get poked by spines like Perch have. She does bait her own hook and unhook her own fish. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank yo :)u

best thing to use for trout is a worm and a piece of corn if they dont bite off of that then switch the corn with power bait usually trout like the green one that smells like garlick
i wish u the best of luck my friend   :icefish:

Hey R.O., does your technique for trout pretty much work anywhere? Been slamming big perch at cascade but w/ 5 poles, I usually set at least one for trout.

I tried the corn and worm last weekend. I was the only one on the lake with more than 1 trout. I got five. Yes it does work. Also I set my poles up at different depths. I found that all my trout came from 6" off the bottom. I will try the Powerbait next time though.

Down here, trout usually cruise about 4-6 feet under the ice.  Live baits like maggots, waxies, etc. on a teardrop are the best producers when the bite isn't hot.  When it heats up, choice of bait just doesn't matter.
