Got out again a couple times this long holiday weekend. Saturday we took 5 guys to a spot where we can usually get some good action on small pike. I started the day off right after getting the tip-ups set with this nice fat perch

Then the flags started...I got into a small one

And the best part... We got a friend of ours into ice fishing last weekend. Took him out for the first time and got him some flags but he never landed a fish. Got him out again this Saturday and it was more of the same. He was starting to get a little frustrated but eventually he got into a pike and iced him. His first ever fish on a tip-up.

Gotta tease him a little for this one  ;)

Now he's really getting the hang of it and he got the biggest Perch of the year of any of us on Monday while everyone else was sitting around yapping.

He told me the other day that he's already told his wife that next year all he wants is icefishing stuff for Christmas. Makes me feel pretty good that we got someone as hooked on it as we are.

Also got another friend his first tip-up fish with this little devil

Fishing was real slow Monday as we couldn't get our normal spots for a late start, but we had a great weekend with friends and some adult beverages and pretty decent weather. I know it's a lot of pics but what the heck :D

Sounds like I have to go to Madison this weekend for NewYears so I won't get to fish again until Monday :'( :'( This just might drive me nuts. Not that we'll have safe ice for much longer anyways if the temps don't start dropping >:(

Nice action shot on that pike!

Wow, fished Saturday in a new spot that really looked promising ( had a bar/grill right next to it) Everyone got into some fish although they weren't real big. Went to the bar for "lunch" came back and fished then stopped for "one quick one"...made our way home about 5 hours later( if I remember right) :-\ :-X. But, we had a blast and did alot of running for flags and you can't beat that. Sorry about all the pics ;) ;D

Got out again this Saturday for some pike and have the "one that got away" story. I ran to a flag and found it to be spinning very slowly. I stood there a second and all of a sudden the tip-up- turned sideways on the ice and the spool just flippin screamed. I tossed the trap out of the hole, grabbed the line, and tried like hell to slow this fish down....to no avail. Finally, after a hand smoking, I slowed it down good, felt the weight of the fish and POP! my leader blew apart. :'( It was a brand new leader and a nice one at that. This was by far the heaviest fish I've ever battled and I was amazed at the power she had. I wish I could have got it turned towards me to fight it, but I guess it wasn't meant to be.  :-\ It was a weird feeling to have something I know was huge and never have a chance to see it..it's happened before but this was a dandy. I know what my new goal for the year is.... Catch that fish! Ok, enough crying. here's a few pics from a great, but rainy, day.

A friends wife with her first ever fish through the ice.

Her husband with a "normal" pike for this lake

Our first ever Bass on a tip-up..In the freezer now ;D Yummy

A lonely flag on some really slippery ice.

I hate it when the line breaks and you know its a big one. By the looks of your pictures, you seem to have the same weather and ice conditions as we do in NY.

Nice pics! Sucks when the "big one" gets away...... I lost a nice pike at the hole a couple of years ago in a tournament, which definately would have placed. My leader came untied from my ice line >:(, I saw the fish at the hole too and it would have been my biggest pike ever!!!
