I've decided the track on my Smitty is too wide. Out on 10" of soft powder today, started out -3F, pulled the sled 1 mile each way to where we were fishing. I figured I would give it a day so we could walk in snowmobile tracks, and there were tracks but my Smitty is too wide. Going to modify by bringing the skis closer together so they fit in a snowmobile track. For you guys that build them to take apart, prolly would be smart to have a wide track/narrow track option. They are OK over a little snow but with deep powder it is still a real haul. Need to take advantage of those snowmobile tracks.
Top knotch nessman, thanks for sharing your experience. Smitty
Here is mine homemade sled/shelter:
Pulls real easy. orig had leftover pieces of paneling for the skis. They worked but broke quick. Buddy gave me old downhill skis, and they work amazing. I see people struggling with big sleds that a lot of people use. This glides nice and easy the skis are key.
Lefty how does that pull on the ice, that is just an awesome combo.
wax the skis
silly question, but it just popped in my head... anyone try water skis skinned with uhmw plastic?
