Ice reports
« on: Dec 04, 2009, 09:31 AM »
Anyone seen any ice out there yet?  Took my kids to the doctor today, noticed the little "pond" south of Teal lake is frozen over and snow covered, and a little pond where I was "deer hunting" (more just holding a gun in the woods for hours on end) was frozen.  I really doubt these hold fish but I might punch a hole through just for practice.

Anyone up for a UP pool for the first fish iced this season?

I saw ice on a flowage just across the border in WI. Think it will be good by Wed. I will check after the weekend.

checked a decent sized pond after work tonight. It was partially covered with 1-1.5" of ice, I walked out to test the thickness ;D won't be long now, lets all pray there is no snow for a while

I checked a few today and getting some good skim ice and with the supposed storm on Tuesday I think we will be in good shape in 10 days.  The 2 week forcast on accuweather is very promising

Big snow on thin ice makes a lot of slush and slows ice making so be careful when you get out.

We've had about 3' this week in the Copper country.  Fluffy lake effect is lousy for ice making.  I haven't made it out to a lake to look yet.

Checked out the lower and upper dead toady with a buddy.  About an 1 1/2 or so on the upper.... probably less on the lower.  There are a bunch of smaller rocks on the ice on the lower now too.... Looks like someone or a couple of someones were trying to throw rocks into the open water next to the stump straight out from the boat launch  ::)...hehehe  Would be fishing this weekend if it wasn't for birthday parties and tree decorating.  Fishing next week for sure, unless we get a heat wave and like 3 feet of snow!

We have gotten about 2 feet of snow up in Calumet.  Some of the smaller ponds are covered over, not sure how much ice and snow there actually is on these bodies of water.  I'm hoping some of the medium sized lakes I like to fish didn't get quite so much snow cover.  I'd like to be fishing this weekend!!!!!!!

Any houghton or keweenaw country ice reports?  I've seen a few lakes covered over but haven't gotten a chance to check the thickness.
