I checked ice conditions at No. 1 all week last week, and ended up fishing Rock on Saturday.  The ice at No. 1 was sketchy and the ice on Rock was 5 inches but getting soft fast on Sat.  Both should be good as of today.  As for the fishing, I caught about 6 9"-10" bows and lost two perch at the hole in 10' to 15' feet of water using straight crawlers on #6 red octopus hooks.  It was fishing- which is still better than having the wife po'ed that I'm not doing the dishes... but WINDY!  I had to drill a hole and put my feet in it to get my ekimo up without ending up in Nebraska.

I will try to make it out Bent... only about 5 minutes from my house!  Where do you get the cats out there?  I hit the hole in front of the pump house for perch and eyes...
I drive a navy blue gmc crew and fish the generic red eskimo 3 man (1 man 1-1/2 children!) pop-up.
The name's Doug.

like 4-5 inch dink, not even a 7 incher and we both caught a couple dozen. As soon as your nightcrawler hit the water boom you had a perch that weighed as much as the sinker. It was fun, my wife learned how to baitfish that day, she normally won't do it because it's boring for her but she had fun.

Yep. No.1 has a pretty healthy population of smallies.  I caught the heck out of them on the boat this summer trolling for eyes.  The biggest was just over 15", but most were about 9 to 10".  They were slamin' the bottom bouncer with a perch colored worm harness.  They should be big by this summer.

I fish the same area for cats as well. There are supposed to be smallies in Rock as well but they hang out on the other side of the lake from were you drive in. I have never caught one but heard of people catching them with drift boats. I will have to let you guys know when i make it up there and go fishing. I hope to hit #3 here in the next month but after that i am game for #1. It's a lot easier to get to.
