Where to fish near Edmonton (visiting from Ontario)
« on: Jan 03, 2012, 06:04 PM »
Hey guys, I just hopped over from the Ontario board.
Im going to be coming out to Edmonton to visit my sister, and I thought I might like to get
a but of ice fishing in. I understand secret spots and sacred, but I was wondering if any of you might be able to point me to some
spots to try. Im looking for places reasonably close to Edmonton. Maybe a location and what I can expect to catch there, so I know what tackle to bring?
Thanks again guys.

Chris

Yup!
Hell, if I'd jumped on all the dames I'm supposed to have jumped on, I'd have had no time to go fishing.

Prefect, thanks guys.
About the whitefish. We get a few every year up in lake Nipissing but for some reason they are FULL of worms. No one eats them. Apparently the Ministry is doing some research on them, but they don't really know which parasite is in them, or why they are so prevalent in the white fish.

Do you guys see this at all in your neck of the woods?

Thanks

Chris

hey chris
1st wab is a c'n'r lake with zero limits on everything so dont keep!!!
2nd, yeah we see the parasite thing here but not all lakes.
seems to depend on available forage.
lakes with lots of beetles and freshwater shrimp have great eating whites.
other lakes they are prone to eating other invertebrates from the mud, etc. and those have bad parasites.
i have caught bad whites in the northern lakes like baptiste and calling but the central and south lakes like pigeon and sylvan have awesome eating whites.
hope that helps.
if u choose a different lake cuz u want to eat a few maybe post it and we can give our opinion on white quality.
good luck, cheers,  gw

1 hour West you can Fish Wabamun.  Pike  and Whitefish
1.5 hour South you can Fish Pike, Walleye (Zero Limit), Perch, and Whitefish on Gull
40 minutes south is Coal Lake for smaller Pike
45 to 50 minutes south is Pigeon.  Good C&R Walleye fishery with some good whitefish

How far do you want to drive? What species do you really want to catch?
