Ice Conditions Deep Creek
« on: Feb 19, 2004, 02:45 PM »
Hey Guys,
I'm thinking about heading over to DCL this weekend for some more ice fishing. How thick is the ice? Where are some of the "hot spots"? What depth are the fish at? Does anyone fish with worms?
Last weekend I fished all day at the bridge by the state park. Missed one and that's it!!! I fished at least 20 different holes!! What am I doing wrong???
Using tip-ups with minnows fished on the bottom has been my method of choice lately.
Hope to hear from you guys before I wake up at 4am on saturday!
Thanks
john

John, I'll be up there too.  Haven't fished it this year so I don't have an update.  But, I'm fairly certain that the ice is good just about anywhere.  Not sure yet where on the lake that we'll fish.

Sometimes on unfamiliar water a good thing to do is to look for areas that have lots of holes popped, especially with activity around one particular hole might indicate that hole was a good one.  Areas like that can narrow down your search considerably.  If you have a flasher and a lake map, then you can find your own spots.  Lake maps are sold in the area tackle shops.

Good luck.

the Glendale bridge area is certinally the most popular .....but McHenry cove is good also ......the main lake along 219 is good also ....heck anywhere you can get on the ice is good ......we(Fat Boy , Perch Jerker and icefishingfool)  fished it yesterday conditions were EXTREME , but we ended up salvaging a rough day with a finicky crappie bit about 7:00pm and fished into the night .....ice is about 16-20 inches ....Mark Sirko

My bro and I fished DCL @ Turkey Neck saturday morning for about 2hrs. Weather was terrible, wind was blowing hard and snow was coming down, visibility was very very  low. In mid afternoon we headed to Piney Reservoir (next to Frosburg), condition were better there and we actually caught some fish!!! we got 4 perch (not that big) using live minnows.

Id consider it pretty much over for Deep Creek until December if we get lucky again. Drove by Marsh Run (Mchenry)cove to hit the Post Office yesterday the back of Ski Harbor, and marsh run as well as the point at Ski Run is all open water, it is melting fast with all the rain. Its time to get those crappie jigs tied and ready for ice out, the slabs will be ready soon!

Nice pics LB.  That one looks deformed!  Nice football perch, gotta love it.  I was thinking last week about one more trip up there but the open water fishing around here is heating up.  Big fish time right now!  Still, there is nothing like catching fish through the ice, so you know it has to be good for me not to hit the hard water.
