No fishing but got the flip shack done.
« on: Feb 01, 2021, 09:02 AM »
I put off fishing Saturday to finish up my Otter Lodge make over... Had it all done and loaded by the evening ready for Sunday morning but got a call from my mom at 3:00 am that something was wrong with her dog. Long story short, the dog is doing better but I spent Sunday in the parking lot at the pet emergency room.
Here's some pics of the build... Luckily I'm single at the moment so nobody to complain about a flip shack being setup in the kitchen all week lol. Built a full deck that ended up about 39"x74" that is just right for a sleeping bag. The seat is mounted with wing nuts so easy on and off. 3 hatches all together and plenty of storage room. Wired it all with led lights and a small inverter if I need to charge batteries, phone or whatever, powered my an Amped outdoors 18 ah lithium. I kept track of the weights of stuff as I went. The flip is 127 or so out of the box and I added about 52 pounds all together, so she'll be a little rough when dragging by foot but that was already the case anyhow... Just a heads up to anyone getting their own build going, an otter sled is not a rectangle despite what your eyes tell you lol, small angle changes everywhere made keeping hatches square more work than it should have been. I'd be out tonight with it if we weren't gonna catch a foot plus this evening...

More than 3 cars in my driveway when I get home ? Probably an intervention! I’m outta there!

That looks great! You and the hound are gonna be living large on the ice.

Speaking of hounds, I'm glad your Mom's pup is doing better.

Interesting setup... I've already got eye bolts in the tub and just use ratchet straps to pin it to the ice, for the front bar I use the conduit clips that Roccus recommended with good success.
Thanks for putting that up though, always good to get a look at all ideas...

Sorry for the late reply Ray... shelter looks great - as expected -good luck hauling that behind the wheeler and making additional mods as you use it  (you know you will).  I pull my clam by hand so I am hesitant to add any more weight - but your updates have me thinking.

Thanks DC, it is a ton of extra weight when doing the hand drag... Quite honestly I couldn't do it on foot with the snow we have around now but with the wheeler or sled 150 pounds or 200 pounds is all the same...
So far it's been well worth it... Last weekend was slow but I got in some good relaxation time lol

Nice!!!

I think if I was that comfortable I would end up dozing off... though being woken up with a fish peeling line off the spool wouldn't be a bad way to go (though more likely I'd wake up cold when the burner ran out of fuel).

Enjoy
