Just out of curiosity have you guy's had any muskrats join you in you're shed either this season or last? Or what is the strangest non fish to come out of yer jigs

I have seen Muskrats come up near holes before but the strangest that has happened to me is to get a hit and miss the fish turn around for the bait and have the fish jump completely out of the hole onto the ice. this has happened twice they were keeper Pickerel. of course you do not have to claim them as part of your limit as you do not pull them out onto the ice.

HaHa I've never had any fish jump right out for me but a muskrat did come out of my jig hole last season and run around my shed for a brief moment, After that it periodically would stick its head through the hole for about another hour or so.

I did catch a skimmer fish once.. But it looked like it was tied on not hooked. back along if a guy turned his back that happened a few other times.

Sebago Lake derby a few years ago my son and son in law partied a bit to much the night before so we got all of our traps in and they fell asleep in the ice shelter, someone who shall remain nameless tied a skimmer on one of their traps and put the flag up, about 5 minutes later 2 wardens cruised up on snowmobiles and went right to the flag, (no one around had had any flags so that brought them right over), I woke my son up and hollered flag up much to there surprise when they saw the wardens, he went to his flag set the hook in his daze and proceeded to play the fish... finally got it through the hole and the wardens about fell off their sleds laughing, of course I asked them what the length limit was and the older warden said he would have to check but my boy might want to consider throwing that short skimmer back, he just blushed with embarrassment.

Two of us, sight fishing in a black out hut. Very wierd ball of weeds went across my hole! A minute later, mushy climbs into the hut, looks at each of us and the pizza on the floor and jumps back down the hole. Buddy, a city boy had never seen a muskrat, what the hell was that??

A rock. My father was jigging once and set the hook on a "big fish". About 2 minutes later a Swedish pimple with a 3 lb piece of granite attached came through the hole LMAO

Flag goes up. We get to the hole and the line is ripping off the spool. The fish stops and my buddy starts pulling it in and up comes a clam with the hook in the clam.

The fish must have had the bait and not the hook in its mouth and while the fish was running the hook pulled free of the bait and dropped into an open clam.

I had an otter trip some flags and stick his head out of one hole on Eagle Lake, MDI. It was by the parking lot and he had a bigger hole near the shore. Needless to say I didn't catch any fish that day.

Years ago A couple of guys were smelting the Kennebec and late at night the guy on the upstream race hole fell asleep and tipped over into the race hole the guy down stream looked down his hole and saw a shirt grabbed it and pulled his buddy up tru the hole . I think that's the best story yet. Might have been alcohol related.

Most Smelt shacks on tidal rivers have two full length holes with lines a foot apart on an overhead bar . one hole is up stream one is down stream
