Fish Chowder Championships
« on: Jan 25, 2016, 02:09 PM »
Hey guys, I'm one of the organizers of the second annual fish chowder championships. I know there were a couple of entrants from IS last year. Hope to see more of you this year!

We have only two entries so far... good odds.

What fish makes the best chowder? I think perch may take the cake, but would like to try walleye/pike chowder.

Sounds like a fun event! I came up with a killer chowder recipe recently... Might have to give this a whirl!

A couple questions though:

1) What is the entry fee, if any?
2) On http://mychamplain.net/chowder is says: "Entrants must bring two gallons of the finished entry in a working crockpot to Hotel Vermont by 2 pm day of the event." - I assume this means you do not not need a 2 gallon crock-pot?? That might be a deal killer for me.

Thanks!

Entry fee is $10 - and as to a crockpot, they would like you to bring an 8qt (2gallon) crock pot. Any crock pot will do, really. The more the better though. Our chef said, you could also bring in a large pot and some sort of heating element.

Ok cool! I have a smaller crock pot I can keep filling up, but yeah, wouldn't run out to buy a bigger one just for this.

Does it have to be made from freshwater fish? I can't make it being from CT and all, but blackfish (aka tautog) makes the best chowder, and I make a mean one. I would love to try to make it next year. Unfortunately you guys are a long way from the shore and blackfishing! And I'm a long way from icefishing!
