The frogs started at my house on the 12th.  The nighthawks returned about two weeks ago, and the wife flushed a woodcock right next to our chicken pen a few days ago.  Fastest winter to spring transition I can remember!

haven't heard peepers yet, but the same woodcock has been bedding alongside my driveway for the last two weeks.

That's one of the things I listen for each spring.

If you want a laugh, watch the '50s monster movie "THEM" about the giant ants.
Listen to the sound the ants make and tell me you don't hear the spring frogs!!

First time I really heard them was along a roadside marsh near the Concord River. I was riding my bike along the road and stopped when I thought I heard a strange noise coming from the marsh. Once I stopped, the sound became more pronounced and I stood there laughing out loud saying "That's where they got that sound from!"

My pond is close to the house and in the spring every show on television has a chorus of frogs peeping. I don't care if it's the news, NCIS or Big Bang Theory the peeping is there.

Any peepers out of hibernation froze last night. 15  degrees this morning, high of 26 today. Hopefully I'll be on the ice Monday catching some white perch and smallmouths. Might be my last trip of the season.
