depends on the tip-up. mine all have large spools, so i put a couple hundred yards of 20 lb. test mono, (Cheap stuff) and 100 yards of dacron on them. covers all salmonoids.

i almost never get that deep into the spool. i use it to save money. dacron isn't cheap. i buy 45-50lb test dacron. easy to handle, and lasts forever.

As much as you can get.  If you're in deeper water for lakers they'll take the bait, hang out for a minute then just take off.  The spool spins like crazy once they get going and your line supply dwindles quickly.

no problem. they could use bigger spools, but you're fine with them.

yeah i think he spools are only good for 100 yards. i will upgrade those for sure. these guys i was talk to were useing salmon sacks for the trout the other weekend and haveing luck. have you ever heard of this. for what they described it was working good.

50lb. dacron w/ 6ft. 14lb. floro. leader w/ sz.6 octopuss hook. split shot about 14in. from hook. i use big smelts so i have to have stiffer line to prvent them from wrapping up. i use this same setup on brookies and sal. too. works great!

:)  line depends on the size and depth of lake, the kind of trout and the everage size of the fish,,,

i dont use tipups only rods with drag set light,,  trout are a pretty agressive fish if they are big the can run.
i only use 6lbs test 8 if im in a big deep lake with monsters.
