between 50 degree weather and high winds the ice was kinda spooky today. the top 4 or 5 in. is really soft and covered in water up to 6in. deep and some cracks were opened up to a couple inches even though it was still almost a foot thick. 8in. holes kinda turned into 9 or 10 in. holes by the time i left.

everyone be careful!!!

Fishing Boysen has been poor for me since the water levels returned to normal last spring. When all the previously dry ground flooded, a whole bunch of fish food became available and it's just a lot harder to tempt a fish whose eyes are bugging out because his belly is so full. We are growing some nice fish that just aren't very hungry. It is real unusual to catch trout less than 20" this year, so for practical purposes the trout limit is one.

had some friends at tuff creek this a.m. and they said it was pretty spooky too.It had 2 to 3" of water on top and the ice was very soft. They went out about 20' and drilled a hole, said the auger went through the ice by it self so they walked softly back off.Dang warm weather.

Went to boysen yesterday along with about 50 other people at tough creek, ice was real good at about 15 inches thick and I caught 25 perch.

I hit boysen over the weekend in between my leadeship class. Marked lots of fish on the finder but was pretty slow. Got two wallys about 2#,2 perch,4 nice rainbows and a big ole cat that I thought was my wall hanger wally. couple pics of a rainbow and my big cat.

Well LT the story goes!!! Actually he kept showing up on my flasher about 4ft off the bottom. I'd pull my jg up to him and he would stare and swim off this went on for three or four min. He finially just tapped it. almost never felt him bite. thinking it was a perch i set the hook and was like HOLY #%$@. this is a big fish. On my light rod none the less with 4# test. Thought for sure I had a huge eye till he made er to the hole. I'm not complaining, shes a great fish. turned her loose after a pic.

Nice fish rodrunner 8)  I would have been hoping that was an wally too, bet that felt way good though knowing it was a big something!  That's always part of the fun in these waters --- could be a big ----anything!

Put in a good 24hrs. at North Muddy and scratched 3 perch. Most guys were'nt having much luck. Plenty of fish marked but tough to get biters...light gear and all.

Hi,
New guy here.
Just found this site a few days ago and have been reading quite a bit.
Still a novice ice fisherman, but go every chance I get.(which working and being away from home 20+ days a month isn't often)
Me and my best friend are headed to boysen on sunday to try to catch whatever might be biting.
Hope to ice a few fish at least....
Thanks for all the great information.
Sincerely,
Dan

the extended forcast is calling for highs in the 50's through at least next wednesday.  think there will still be enough safe ice for the derby?  ???

I would say about 15" , but a couple of guys dropped a Ford Ranger through the other night, pressure ridge. I went out to look the next morn, and the pickup was gone. Not sitting there with it's front wheels buried it was gone, just stuff that floated were froze in the hole.

I fished across from Poison in Badwater on Wednesday and Thursday morn., 16 inches of clear ice.  Managed only one flag, marked fish all day and night but no takers. I suspect the high pressure system has slowed them down a bit.
